RIGHT NOW IN THE MALDIVES

I’ve got the flu. Life sucks sometimes.

As a proponent of the “two-sides-to-everything” philosophy, I offer the up-side of things here: thongs abound on the white sand.

    • Sue, yeah, teacups, that was my view at breakfast. And right…shame about the flu! And I’m the kind of guy who “never gets sick”! Must be some kind of karma? At least it wasn’t a shark attack in the surf.

  1. Hello Badfish! Have missed you! Sorry to hear you got the flu…hope you get better soon. On a positive note, that’s not a bad view to recover… Blissful.
Have a good time there and when you come back, tell us all the tales. I can see some thong’s stories building up. Hopefully no more ghekos.
    .
One of the highlights of this year has been to have crossed paths with you on the blogosphere.
Cheers to more bridges, and to your outstanding stories!
Happy holidays and a great start of 2016!

    • Lucile, man I’ve missed you! And right, if you have to have the flu, this is probably the BEST place in the world to recuperate. There is a thong story, but sadly no geckos here, wonder why?
And I must admit, having met and bantered with you has definitely been one of the highlights of 2015 for me, too. And finally, I’m the one DOING something for a change.
One sad thing about this trip, there are no bridges here, only ferry boats.
Marvelous holidays to you, too! 2016? What happened to the 90’s…where did they go so quickly?

      • You left me almost teary! 😘 thank you for the lovely words, the best good-Badfish ever!
And I’m so happy that you’re doing things too! I’m not alone anymore.
Hope you’re feeling better to enjoy paradise and start the New Year strong as ever.
I’ll make sure to shoot some bridges during my vacations, ok? And you keep shooting thongs….
The 90’s! Bastards! Gone in a sec!
Take care and have a great time!

        • We could do a book and title it: “Bridges and Thongs.”
And yeah, the 90’s…where did they freakin go? I think I’m still missing a year or two out of the 80’s.

  2. Well, if you’re going to have flu, I can think of worse places to have it than an island paradise (my living room, for example). Don’t give flu to any of those little fish now. They can’t cope. Their handkerchiefs get soggy.

    • The beginning started the day after my flight. I’m blaming it on someone on that airplane…such wicked air in those things, just circulating again and again in there. But yeah, a lovely place to get well in! Clear skies, clear water.

    • Crystal clear is exactly right. I’ve never seen the ocean that clear, and I’ve seen the ocean in a lot of places. I’m actually enjoying the place by just sitting and watching and photographing!!

  3. You have got the flu and you hate beaches. 😦 Maybe you missed this little info about the Maldives in your non-planning mode.

In Slovenia we don’t have (natural) beaches, going there tomorrow. Maybe you missed the little info in your About me that you made it into my top ten blogs of this year. If you believe it and let it, this info alone can cure you right now and you can finally wear those thongs.

Much love and luck and joy and crabs (and crap!) and all things spontaneous and magical in the coming year.

  4. Hey BF!
I met a guy from the Maldives. Nice fellow. Goes to school here.
There is a foot of snow here, all the roads are closed, I’m stuck in a city instead of my beautiful home in the mountains, and I crave warm ocean. No flu, though, thankfully.
Enjoy floating. Kiss the ocean for me, but don’t inhale.
Have fun even though it’s just another beach.

      • I’m not sure you want to come all this way for white sand beaches, crystal clear water and mandatory Xmas Eve dinners. But it is beautiful. Thongs in North America are also flip-flops. They gave me a free pair here. So what do the Aussies call a bathing suit thong?

        • sorry about the flu but hoping some beach love is re-awakened!

I was to attend a fancy Maui beach wedding once which required “formal beach wear”. Found an appropriate dress but not shoes so shopped several high-end boutiques in Carlsbad, CA asking sweet young sales girls if they sold “beaded thongs”, meaning, of course, the shoe variety. Hey, I thought a flip flop with beads could pass for dressy!

The embarrassed looks on the faces of these young women, thirty years (as well as pounds) my junior, were confusing…but priceless once I figured out what they were picturing as they looked at me (and not at my feet!)

Thanks for the vicarious visit to the beach.

          • MAN!! THAT is funny story. You should write a post about it. Or…just use this comment all by itself. You live/lived in Carlsbad? I used to live in San Diego…eons ago. I know just what those salesgirls eyes might look like! So…did you find beach-chic foot thongs for the wedding?

  5. Crap, you’re in the Maldives! Double crap that you’re sick! How did you end up going to such a fab place? I think I missed that post where you mentioned about your next plans after Bali. Or was this a surprise? Anyhow, I hope you feel better quick! New Year is a-coming and you wanna partaaay! 🙂

    Like

    • I know…double crap! Yeah, I’ve been planning (or rather not planning) this trip for a while now. I’ve been wanting to come here for years, just to see what all the fuss and hype was about. So I did! That’s about the extent of my planning. I’m planning on being in India for New Years Eve! Partaaay on Indian Style!!

  6. See? I told you, don’t plan to write and something shows up even if it is a “little” blurb.

I see that even with the flu, nothing rings your chimes more than a beautiful body in a thong. The non foot variety I presume or why mention them? Funny how age doesn’t change our appreciation for a nice body. No picture though?
Blame it on the flu. LOL

    • Yeah, good thing I didn’t “plan” to write, I would have disappointed myself! But a blurb, I could handle. I can’t not take a photo if I see one, flu or no flu! So I had them lying about, ready to load onto the post. Ring my chimes with the flu…I think a bowl of Mom’s chicken soup could ring my chimes. But yeah, as they say, old but not dead! And some old geezer can’t just point his camera at a young thing in a thong, you know. What are people going to think…reality?

      • When I was a young, sexy thing, I remember tourists asking dad for permission to have their pictures taken with me. Dad thought it was funny, he figured they’d go home and brag that they spent time with all these pretty girls. LOL An old geezer doesn’t have to explain anything. Everyone knows it’s just wishful thinking. ROFLOL So sorry BF, I am so there with you!

  7. Oh, I don’t know. It just doesn’t seem like Christmas unless somebody has the flu. This year it’s a nephew. I’ll email his mother with a note to turn the TV to the G-string’d Beach Babes channel. I’ll tell her it’s a remedy I read on the internet.

    • Well, the weather is fairly wonderful here, especially for December, where some places have a bunch of snow covering the ground by now. If I were going to judge…I’d say being here with the flu might win out over being in, say, Boise, Idaho in a snow storm without the flu. Some times, we just don’t get a choice…

    • Thanks, the flu is fading, but clingy. But it’s kind of weird when I show photos of this place, and the comments are more about my flu. I think I have some pretty cool commenters!

  8. Holy Catfish, BadfishMan! you’re in the Maldives? You’re on vacation again. But you actually packed the flu to take? No way! *sending chickenless soup; Echinacea tea; Healing Energy; with love and hugs your way*

You’ve been gone for so long, I wondered what you were up to. Now I know.
Get well soon. Come back home soon. MISS YOU!

    • FIM! Where have you been…I have missed you bigtime! But wait, maybe it was me who went away. I packed no flu, I’m pretty sure I contracted it on the plane–breathing all that foul air in again and again. Echinacea…that’s exactly what I’d like to be sipping right about now. And love and hugs, too! Thanks! One thing I’ve discovered is how out of shape I have allowed myself to get…and it ain’t pretty.

      • Ach! Word press is at it again! I didn’t receive this reply 😦
I only find out just now after reading and replying to your Maldives – pear shaped (2nd post – the first also never made it to my inbox 😦 😦 ) post. I wanted to see if you’d been back to answer my “Holy Badfishman” exclamation. And indeed you had!
I was going through withdrawal, with nothing from you.

But, it’s a new year, and we’re back in the swing of things. Glad, in fact that the whole holiday season is behind us.

Do you not have Echinacea there? *wonders if care packages of herbs will be allowed?*

More love and hugs heading your way!

        How’s Duncan?

        Peace Out!

  9. Sorry to hear you arent well. I managed to get a cold for Xmas as well. I hope it isn’t bringing you t=down too far and just making you lay on the beach a little more. Interested in hearing what you think of the Maldives. Worth all the hype?

    • Hey woman!!! Missed you a bunch. And it is beautiful here, and warm. Hot actually, too hot in the sun. I’m sunburned. Stupid. Sunburned with the flu…how does that happen? Have a Happy New Year. I’ll be in India for New Years Eve…we’ll see what that brings, eh?!

  10. gosh. its good to hear from you Badfish
as usual it makes me want to hop on the next boat. fascinating about the f lu…sorry you are sick in paradise. Sometimes the flu can be almost seductive…I had it once in Chiapas, thekind that is comforting in a way…no headache, coughing or other gross symptoms . stay in bed no one knows, no one cares… there was a pharmacy next door to the hotel…. slept for two days. just another weird American…

    • Ha! Gradma, you flu sounds a whole lot kinder and gentler than mine. However, I have spent a lot of time reclining…and in the jacuzzi and just floating in the ocean trying to rid myself of the gunk. AND there really is nothing else to do in paradise like this if you are alone, so fine, I rest! It’s not like I’d be out kite boarding if I wasn’t reclining!
